Racer Ready Blog Post - Oct. 8, 2023

It has been a busy few weeks for NEMS and that will likely continue over the coming weeks into November. Last week we announced our 2023-24 Race Schedule as well as the great news that Gore Mountain would be the host for the 2024 Eastern Regional Championships

This weekend is Columbus / Indigenous Peoples Weekend. For mountains and ski shops across the country that means it is time to hold their annual ski swap events. I have always enjoyed ski swaps. It’s a great way to get people thinking about the upcoming season. It is also a great opportunity for people to try and sell gear they are no longer using while allowing others to potentially find something they need to get them through the season. Fun fact, when I decided to start racing with NEMS, I bought my first pair of Slalom skis at the Wachusett ski swap.

This weekend the Killington Mountain School (KMS) also held its annual golf tournament. The event raised close to $30k. It was great to spend the day with some fellow NEMS racers. Thankfully we managed to purchase just enough mulligans to avoid coming in last place. Money well spent!

Driving around Vermont you are quickly reminded that we are in the middle of foliage season. I’m not sure if this would be considered “peak” season, but I have to assume we are right there. The colors are amazing!

Speaking of Killington, tickets for the Women’s World Cup go on sale Oct. 12th. I don’t think there is a risk of the World Cup selling out faster than a Taylor Swift concert, but I would highly recommend attending. This is a truly unique experience, and if you are a fan of ski racing, attending this event should be on your bucket list.

I’ll close with a reminder to purchase your USSS Masters License before early bird pricing closes on Sunday, Oct. 15th at 5:00 PM (MST). Most of our races do require a USSS Masters License and there are some great benefits that come along with it as well, such as access to Expert Voice. So if you like saving money, this is a no-brainer!
