Mount Southington - 2 x SL Races

About 30 minutes from Hartford and New Haven is the Town of Southington, Connecticut. Directly off of Rt. 84, Southington, by most accounts, is a normal town. There is a main strip filled with hotels, restaurants, and stores. There are schools and a great community to go with it. But what sets Southington apart from most other towns across the Constitution state is that they have thier own ski area, appropriately named Mount Southington. The ski area, however, is actually located in a neighborhood of Southington called Plantsville.

To state the obvious, Mount Southington is not a big mountain. It's peak is actually just over 525 feet high and it has a vertical drop of just over 400 feet. While most mountains have access roads leading up to the parking lot, Mount Southington simply requires that you drive through a peaceful neighborhood. It is completely different from any other venue we will visit and you are going to absolutely love racing here.

Being a small venue everything is relatively close in proximity, which will make your day far more enjoyable. What will really put a smile on racer's faces is the Slalom courses they will get to run while there. Located on Thunderbolt, the trail's most unique feature might just be the start ramp. Racer's will need to pop off the skis and climb up a flight of stairs to start this race. Pushing out of the start, racer's will charge down the ramp onto a flat section that will require both strength and finesse to quickly power through before entering the main pitch. The rest will be fast, furious and require some quick feet at the end. After you've caught your breath you'll most likely wishing you could do it again. The good news is that you'll get four shots at it.
